The plan for this fun day out with Panniers 9600 and 9466 is to depart Tyseley and head onto the mainline towards our first passenger stop at Coleshill Parkway. Shortly after, we will continue past the old Daw Mill colliery towards our final passenger pickup, Nuneaton.
From Nuneaton, we continue towards Leicester, turning off the mainline at Knighton South Junction onto the Coalville Branch, rarely in use for passenger traffic these days. We join the mainline at Leicester Junction and steam the short distance to our first break at Burton-on-Trent. Here there will be time to sample the historic town’s refreshments or tour the former famous Bass Brewery.
Departing Burton, we turn onto the Stenson Branch, which rarely sees passengers other than for diversions. Reaching Trent Junctions we turn south, onto the Midland Mainline, passing our friends at the Great Central Railway and towards our second stop, Leicester.
After a second break in Leicester, we embark for home, retracing our outbound route back to Tyseley. There will be ample time to see and photograph the mainline’s two smallest steam locomotives in action throughout the tour.
