Some Vintage Trains customers and visitors to this website may have read that the boiler certificate for 4965 has been extended. This is not currently correct, and we are unable to categorically state that it will be extended at this stage.

The situation has arisen that following an initial inspection, the locomotive , and boiler in particular, are in extremely good condition and as such may well merit an extension for a further 6 months. The boiler was retubed some 3 years ago, and the superheater flue tubes and elements were all renewed at the end of 2007, with hydraulic tests being carried out on both occasions. Consequently, it is believed that it will be possible to negotiate a short extension, but this will have to be done jointly with our VAB, Insurer, the RSSB and the HMRI. As yet no documentation has been presented to any of these bodies in support of an application.
