46229 Duchess of Hamilton is a member of the LMS Princess Coronation Class. It is currently at Tyseley for assessment for re-streamlining into original condition. This project is being partly funded by the success of a fund-raising appeal recently launched by the magazine "Steam Railway".

The locomotive is not normally on view in areas accessible by visitors to Tyseley Locomotive Works.

A SEMI AGAIN - FOR A DAY
A BREATHTAKING DAY AT TYSELEY LOCO WORKS 6 May 2006

As part of the re-streamling process of Duchess of Hamilton, the smokebox top has had to be given a sloping front. Those who made significant donations to the Steam Railway Appeal were invited to Tyseley Locomotive Works to see the engine as it appeared in the years immediately after it was de-streamlined. This was a one day only special viewing of the engine in a condition not seen for around 48 years. And maybe not be repeated for many years to come - if ever!
