Itinerary: (subject to confirmation)

Edinburgh has one of the most beautiful cityscapes in the world with Scotland’s most famous castle dominating the city skyline. Known affectionately as ‘Auld Reekie’ when in the late 18th century some 400 illicit stills went undetected due to the thick smoke that filled the city! Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the heart of the city combines medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town.

One of the best ways to see the sights is by double-deck sightseeing bus, whilst the Royal Mile is also a ‘must do’ for many visitors. The No. 22 bus from Princes Street will take you to the Royal Yacht Britannia, permanently moored at the Ocean Terminal in Leith.

Class 47 diesel 47773 will haul the train between Birmingham and Preston via Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester, with Class 86 electric locomotive 86259 ‘Les Ross’ hauling the train between Preston and Scotland’s capital city.

The train starts at Birmingham New Street and picks up at Tame Bridge Parkway, Wolverhampton and Stafford. It then takes the line through Stoke, Stockport and Manchester to Preston. After changing over locomotives the train will head up through the Fells to Carlisle, Lockerbie, Carstairs Jn and on to Edinburgh.
